WIP Wednesday

Quilting has begun on my In From The Cold quilt!  I finished the back and basting this morning and I decided to start with outlining the mugs ~ not IN the ditch, but close to the ditch.

From there, I thinking of cross-hatching the background because I love that look on other quilts I've seen.  Or maybe I should go with something like the serpentine stitch on this gorgeous quilt by amandajean over at Crazy Mom Quilts?

Here's the back:

I did get 2 more 16-patch blocks done on my Good Night Irene quilt ~ I love the bright colors!

Projects in the works this week

This is one of those weeks where I'm in the middle of a couple of things, but I don't really expect any finishes anytime soon.

I finally got started on my blocks for the Good Night Irene sew-along (way past due, but that's OK ~ I'm going at my own pace!).  I decided to use "Delighted" ~ a collection by The Quilted Fish at Riley Blake that I've had FOREVER.

So far I've cut out 344 2-1/2" blocks ~ whew!  I'm sewing them together as kind of a "leaders and enders" project.  When I finish a seam on another project, I grab 2 squares out of my Delighted pile and sew those together.  Once I get eight pairs sewn, I put together a 16-patch block.  So far I have 2!

I'm still trying to figure out how to quilt my In From The Cold quilt ~ but in the meantime, I'm working on adding a strip of fabrics to the backing.

So that's where I'm at today ~ hoping to get a little further on these projects this week, but the Naples Quilt Show is this weekend, so that's going to keep me a little busy.  :)  My first quilt show ever!  I entered my Pinwheel and Postage Stamps quilt (my first), so I'm excited!!

A finish for my table!

It's finished!  My Midwinter Reds tablerunner, that is.  I started this in a class EONS ago and I do love the way it turned out!

So that's finish #3 for my first quarter 2014 Finish-A-Long over at The Littlest Thistle.  Six weeks left to finish the 3 projects left on the list!  I think I can ... I think I can ...

Some Quilty Progress

I managed to finish quilting my Midwinter Reds table runner ~ and I'm pretty well mostly happy with the way it turned out!  I love the diamonds in the blocks ~ but I'm rather bored with the quilting on the brown sashing.   (Maybe it's because I'm just not crazy about brown!)

And even though you can barely see the quilting on the back, I love the way that looks.  :)  (I swear the fabric isn't shiny, it was just next to a bright sunny window)

Binding tomorrow ~ I picked up this red print and now I'm second-guessing how it's going to look on the outside of the brown.

I guess I'll just go for it and then I'll be done with this one and on to the next.  :)  Maybe I'll try tackling some free-motion quilting on my In From The Cold quilt ~ scary thought!

My little Grace is covered!

Today I was able to finish the sewing machine cover that I was working on as part of the "2014 It's a New Year Sewalong" at Sew Can She.  (This is finish #2!)  I originally thought about adding pockets on the sides, but decided against it ~ I figured it just gets folded up when not in use anyway!

I misjudged the length of the sides, so my side blocks got cut off a bit ~ but I love it otherwise!

Next up?  I've decided how I want to quilt my Midwinter Reds table runner, so I started working on that this afternoon.

I have to say ~ I picked up this little Hide Your Threads kit from Leah Day. I was never sure what to do with my threads once I finished a line of quilting ~ her video answered that question perfectly!  Thanks, Leah!!

Better late than never!

I know at the beginning of January I said I was jumping into the "2014 It's a New Year Sewalong" at Sew Can She.   But between 2 plane trips in January and almost a week of being sick following that, I totally missed all of the deadlines.   :(   It's a new month, however ~ and I haven't given up on making at least a dozen log cabin blocks.  I still have my pride!

Three blocks done ~ nine to go!  I'm hoping to turn these into a cozy cover for my little Grace.

On the funny side ~ I came across this little piece of advice the other day and thought it was too funny not to share.  (BTW ~ I was born in 1949!)
