2017 Finish-A-Long ~ Second Q1 Finish: Rail Fence

Finish #2!  I don't think I've ever made a quilt this quickly ~ from cutting to binding it only took me 8 days.  It's the Rail Fence comfy quilt for the Naples Quilters Guild using this tutorial.    Granted, it's an easy pattern, but I wanted to finish it in time for this month's meeting next week because it's going to the Children's Advocacy Center in Naples.

This was my first set of strip-pieced blocks.  I ended up with 25 blocks ~ 20 on the front and the remaining 5 on the back.

I quilted a wide zig-zag in the center of the quilt, wavy lines down the side borders and small loops on the top and bottom borders.  It's really hard to see the quilting on that border fabric, but that's a good thing since I'm practicing my free-motion.  :)

I used a Bali Poppy collection called Storm for the blocks - love the colors!  The blue batik I used for the small border and the binding was in my stash, so I have no idea what it is. The wide border and backing fabric (DAIWABO Selection?) was found at my local quilt shop.

Hooray for checking another project off my list!  Linking up with Finish or Not Friday.

2017 Finish-A-Long ~ 1st Quarter Finish: Christmas Mini

Like I said in my list ~ I was almost finished with this one.  :)  And since it was so easy, I decided no time like the present!

I was lucky enough to find this pattern by Lella Boutique in Fat Quarter Shop's November Sew Sampler Box (if you haven't subscribed to this, it's pretty awesome!) and I just happened to have a mini charm pack of Nature's Gift by Deb Strain, so of course I had to make a mini-quilt out of it.

I did simple cross-hatch quilting on the diagonal.  The backing and binding fabrics were leftovers in my stash and I don't remember what they were.  I had one block left over, so I pieced it into the backing.

My first finish of 2017 ~ a great way to start the year!

2017 Finish-A-Long ~ 1st Quarter List

So excited to get this year going!  My goal is to exceed last year's total (9).

Here's my list for the 1st quarter:

I have a couple of new projects that have deadlines, so those are up first.

1 - Interlocking Chains from the book New Ways with Jelly Rolls: 12 Reversible Modern Jelly Roll Quilts by Pat and Nicky Lintott.  Hoping to have this finished by the end of February for a small quilt show.

2 - Rail Fence.  This is going to be a comfy quilt for the Naples Quilters Guild using this tutorial.  I'd like to have this one finished by the end of January.  Strips are sorted, so that's a start!

I thought I'd add a couple of other projects although there's really no deadline for these:

3 - Facets from the book Machine Quilting With Style by Christa Watson.

4 - Christmas Mini.  Almost finished with this one - should be ready for next Christmas!

I was going to add some oldies but goodies, but I think I'll stop right here ~ no sense in getting discouraged right off the bat!  :)
