2020 Finish-A-Long: One more 4th Quarter finish ~ Seasonal Silhouettes - December

Happy to say I have one more finish for this quarter!  I love this design from the  Seasonal Silhouettes pattern book by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.  Aside from the May Block with the bicycle, this is probably my favorite!

I quilted this one differently than all the others, doing the background quilting first and then the applique after that.  Very happy with the results!

The pattern called for beads in the center of the pointsettia, but I found these little prong flowers in my stash that worked out perfectly.  It's a good thing I kept some scrapbooking "stuff"  :)

This makes 3 projects finished for this quarter ~ I'm good with that!

2020 Finish-A-Long: 4th Quarter Finishes ~ Patchwork Barn & Seasonal Silhouettes November

It just dawned on me that I didn't post my 4th Quarter List on here as well as Instagram.

I'm happy to say I have two finishes so far this quarter!

First ~ the November Seasonal Silhouettes wall hanging.  I had the pieces fused, so I was able to finish it pretty quickly.

Second ~ after almost 3 years in the making, I finally finished my Patchwork Barn!  Happy Days!  I've never done that much applique on a quilt, so I think that was the reason I kept putting off finishing it, but I'm really happy with the result.  And I like that I changed the pattern up a little by adding 1" horizontal sashing between the 6" blocks.  It just gives it a little more "breathing" room!

I found the 108" backing at Backside Fabrics and the colors just fit perfectly!

That makes 2 finishes for the last quarter of 2020 ~ hoping to get one more done this year.

2020 Finish-A-Long: Quarter 3 Finish ~ Unity

The Unity Quilt is finished!  My 3rd Bonnie Hunter quilt so far this year.  The original pattern is actually quite a bit bigger, but I just wanted a lap-sized quilt this time so I eliminated a few of the borders to make it the perfect size.

I've grown to love making scrap quilts and digging through my fabrics to find just what I need without buying more fabric.  I did purchase a wide backing from Hobby Lobby, but everything else came from my stash.

Quilting was done with my walking foot (as usual) and I like the way it highlights the piecing.  I love this little snowman block.

There are even some dragons in this quilt along with the snowmen!

I'm looking forward to a new Bonnie Hunter mystery coming up soon!  I still have lots of stash left.  :)

2020 Finish-A-Long: 3rd Quarter List

So ~ we're at the 3rd Quarter.  To be honest, I'm not expecting to get as much done now that we're able to get out of the house a lot more often!  :(

1 - Twins' Onesies quilt.  I've been wanting to do a t-shirt quilt and decided it would be fun to make one out of my twin granddaughters' onesies.  Only two blocks finished so far, so really need to make some progress on this!

2 - Patchwork Barn Block of the Month by Edyta SitarI have the center of the quilt put together and I've finished the applique for one of the side panels.

3 - Unity Quilt by Bonnie Hunter   Yes, another quilt pattern with LOTS of pieces!  Bonnie started this as a quilt-along when we were locked in our houses at the end of March.  I'm finished with most of it, but I'm debating whether or not to change up the pattern a little to make it smaller than 72 x94.

I'll post this list on Instagram, but I wanted to add it here as well.

Enjoy your summer!

2020 Finish-A-Long: 2nd Quarter Finish #2 ~ Frolic

Can I pinch myself now?  I finished another Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt!  I started this one in November 2019 and ~ again ~ I didn't have to buy any fabric, not even the backing.

This quilt is a big bigger ~ it ended up about 85" x 85" ~ and now I finally have a quilt for my bed!  My hubby loves it and so do I.

This is where it was before all this Covid business:

All blocks are finished, but not trimmed:

This is the back before the quilt was basted:

Quilting in progress:

and this is the finish.  I Like It!

Someone in my quilt group asked me how many pieces were in this quilt ~ so I went back to the pattern and counted:  3,628.  Whew!

So two finishes so far this quarter ~ I'm guessing that will be it, but I can live with that!

A quick finish ~ Hope

This quilt was not on my FAL List, but it was another quick and fun finish!  Gudrun Erla of GE Designs spent another Saturday with her newest online Quarantine Quilt Along #2.  She called this pattern Hope ~ pretty fitting in that we all hope things get back to somewhat normal soon!

I made a small version of her pattern, using only 20 blocks and adding a border.  But it was quick and easy and I love how it turned out!

2020 Finish-A-Long: 2nd Quarter Finish - Good Fortune

I'm happy to say that I finally finished my first Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt!  Started in November 2018, it was definitely a challenge ~ both in the number of pieces that went into this, but I had never done a "scrappy" quilt before.    What a blast!  and I didn't have to buy any fabric ~ everything came out of my stash (except for the backing which I found at Hobby Lobby).  I'm so proud of myself!  LOL

Finish #1 for this 2nd Quarter.  I'm just waiting on some batting ~ my second Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt, "Frolic", is waiting patiently.  :)

2020 Finish-A-Long: 2nd Quarter List

Second Quarter already ~ hoping to finish at least 2 of these while we're stuck here in the house.  :(

1 - Patchwork Barn Block of the Month by Edyta SitarI have most of the quilt put together and I'm just starting on the applique for the side panels.

2 - Good Fortune Mystery Quilt.  This is the first Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt I've ever done ~ and I LOVED putting it together!  Top is finished and it's basted, so all it's ready for some quilting!

3 - Twins' Onesies quilt.  I've been wanting to do a t-shirt quilt and decided it would be fun to make one out of my twin granddaughters' onesies.  Only two blocks finished so far, so I'm hoping to make some progress on this!

4 - Frolic Mystery Quilt.  The latest mystery by Bonnie Hunter.  I have the top finished and backing is almost ready.  Hoping I can finish it this quarter.

I posted this list on Instagram before the deadline, but I wanted to add it here as well.

2020 Finish-A-Long: 2nd finish ~ Pinwheel Path

I'm back with another finish for the first quarter of FAL 2020.  This was for a guild challenge.  To participate, we were given an old quilt magazine (mine was Quiltmaker Jan/Feb 2001) and a fat quarter to use to create one of the projects in the magazine.  This is the quilt I chose for inspiration to make my project.  The safety pin fabric was the fat quarter I needed to use.

I changed it up a bit using only 12 blocks and eliminating the inner border.  What a difference the fabrics make!

I started off by using a jelly roll of Bobbins & Bits by Pat Sloan. I used the safety pin fabric in the bobbin & flower blocks and another black & white fabric for the pinwheel blocks and the binding.  I love how this quilt is so much brighter than the original from the magazine.

I used some Bobbins and Bits yardage with berries for the border.

The backing is from my stash, so I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I think it goes well with the rest!

I decided to name this quilt "Pins & Bobbins & Berries, Oh My!"   I thought it fit better than just Pinwheel Path.  :)

So two finishes for this 1st quarter.  Yay, me!

2020 Finish-A-Long: 1st finish ~ Flowerclub table topper

Off to a good start this year!   The Flowerclub table topper is finished already.  It was a nice change doing some paper-piecing and it came together pretty quickly.

Quilting on it was my usual straight-line walking foot quilting.  Even though it's simple, I love the look ~ and since we moved out west, I find I'm drawn to more of a Southwest color pallette!

I debated on what to use as a backing, but I came across this Southwestern print at Hobby Lobby with all the right colors that I thought was perfect for the backing and the binding!

So I can check this finish off my list ~ I may even have another finish before the end of this quarter.  Fingers crossed!!

2020 Finish-A-Long: 1st Quarter List

New year ~ new motivation!  I'm really hoping to finish more than 4 quilts this year.  It should be a bit quieter ~ we won't be traveling as much or moving across country, so I'll have more time to quilt.  It's nice to finally be settled in our new home!

I have two projects left over from last quarter:

1 -
Patchwork Barn Block of the Month by Edyta SitarI have most of the quilt put together and I'm just starting on the applique for the side panels.

2 - Good Fortune Mystery Quilt.  This is the first Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt I've ever done ~ and I LOVED putting it together!  Top is finished and it's basted, so all it's ready for some quilting!

New this quarter:

3 - Flowerclub Table Topper ~ pattern by Anja Townrow.  I started this paper-pieced quilt in a class with our local quilt group.  I've finished two blocks so far, so I'm sure I can finish this one!

4 - Pinwheel Path.  This is for a guild challenge.  To participate, we were given an old quilt magazine (mine was Quiltmaker Jan/Feb 2001) and a fat quarter to use to create one of the projects in the magazine.  This is the quilt I chose for inspiration to make my project.  The safety pin fabric is the fat quarter I need to use.  Wish me luck!

5 - Twins' Onesies quilt.  I've been wanting to do a t-shirt quilt and decided it would be fun to make one out of my twin granddaughters' onesies.  Only two blocks finished so far, so I'm hoping to make some progress on this!

6 - Frolic Mystery Quilt.  The latest pattern by Bonnie Hunter.  I'm a little behind on this one (just finished clue #6 out of 9).  But I just saw the reveal and can't wait to catch up!

It's a long list for me, but I need to get back into the quilting groove and I'm hoping this will be my motivator.  :)

Happy New Year!!
